Brumbrum transforms Italy's used‑car market with industrial‑scale refurbishment

Purchasing a used car in Italy can involve hidden risks such as unclear mileage, neglected maintenance, electronic faults and unexpected repair costs. Experts advise buyers to verify service history, check mileage consistency, consider total ownership costs—including fuel, insurance and financing terms—and prefer sellers that certify comprehensive inspections.

Italian startup brumbrum, now part of the French Aramis Group, operates a 50,000‑square‑metre refurbishment hub in Reggio Emilia. The centre employs about 50 specialists and applies roughly 300 quality checks per vehicle, covering mechanics, bodywork, electronics and safety systems. Most of the cars processed come from long‑term rental fleets, allowing reliable maintenance records. The refurbished inventory, typically restored to near‑new condition, is sold exclusively online, with limited physical showrooms in Reggio Emilia and Cinisello Balsamo and further centres planned for Bologna and other cities.

Brumbrum’s model aims to increase transparency and confidence in the fragmented Italian used‑car market, which sees around three million ownership transfers annually, by offering certified, industrial‑grade refurbishing and a digital purchasing experience.
