Brunei Sultan withdraws royal title from daughter-in-law
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei has officially withdrawn the royal title "Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri" from his daughter-in-law, Pengiran Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah, effective immediately.
The announcement was made by the Acting Grand Chamberlain, Pengiran Haji Raffizanna, via a televised broadcast. The decision was reportedly based on conduct deemed inappropriate for a spouse of a member of the royal family, which allegedly tarnished the reputation of the monarchy and showed a lack of respect toward the Sultan, the Queen, and the royal family.
Pengiran Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah is married to Prince ‘Abdul Malik, one of the Sultan's sons. Unlike previous instances where royal titles were withdrawn following the divorce of the Sultan's wives, no change in the marital status of the Prince and his wife has been announced. This move represents a direct assertion of authority over the conduct of an in-married member of the royal family.
