Bruno Fernandes contract talks stall at Manchester United
Contract negotiations between Manchester United and captain Bruno Fernandes have reached a standstill. The 32-year-old Portuguese midfielder has approximately eight months remaining on his current deal, though the club holds an option to extend his contract by an additional 12 months.
Reports indicate that Fernandes has expressed concerns regarding the club’s ambition following a summer transfer window that failed to address key squad weaknesses. Despite his recent success, which included a record-breaking 21 assists in a single Premier League season and winning the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, his future at Old Trafford remains uncertain. There are concerns he could leave as a free agent next summer if the situation does not improve.
During the August transfer window, Manchester United maintained a firm stance that Fernandes was not for sale, rejecting interest from clubs including Galatasaray, Juventus, and AC Milan. While the club focused on rebuilding its midfield with signings such as Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans, the lack of defensive reinforcements, specifically at left-back, has become a primary focus for the upcoming January transfer period.
