Bruno Fernandes linked to Atletico Madrid amid Manchester United tension

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is reportedly linked to a potential move to Atletico Madrid this January following a period of friction with manager Michael Carrick. The tension escalated after Fernandes publicly criticized the club's tactical decisions following a Champions League defeat to Como, an act described by former player Frank Leboeuf as a “betrayal.”

Following those comments, Fernandes was left on the bench during a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth. While Manchester United is considering exercising a contract extension option to protect his market value, reports suggest the club is viewing a sale as a real possibility. Atletico Madrid is reportedly “accelerating” interest in the 32-year-old to bolster their creative options following the departure of Antoine Griezmann.

Other potential suitors include clubs from Saudi Arabia. Replacing Fernandes would present a significant financial challenge, with estimates suggesting a replacement could cost at least 130 million euros.
