Bruno Fernandes transfer speculation at Manchester United

Speculation regarding the future of Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes intensified in October 2026. Initially, reports indicated that club co-owners INEOS might consider a sale for approximately €50-60m, despite praise for his ‘world class’ abilities. At that time, contract negotiations for the Portuguese international were reportedly ongoing.

By late October, the situation evolved into reported friction between Fernandes and manager Michael Carrick. This tension followed public criticism from Fernandes regarding the club’s tactics after a Champions League defeat to Como, an action characterized by former player Frank Leboeuf as a “betrayal.”

As a result of this conflict, Fernandes was relegated to the bench during a loss to Bournemouth. Atletico Madrid has reportedly begun “accelerating” interest in the 32-year-old to replace Antoine Griezmann, while other potential suitors include clubs from Saudi Arabia. Manchester United is reportedly weighing the option of exercising a contract extension to protect his market value against the possibility of a sale.
