Brunswick Complex wildfires in Fraser Canyon are being held
The Brunswick Complex wildfires in the Fraser Canyon are now being held by the BC Wildfire Service. Both the Ainslie Creek and Brunswick Creek fires are no longer classified as out of control or as fires of note. The Brunswick Creek fire, which was human-caused and discovered on July 2, grew to 9,266 hectares, while the Ainslie Creek fire, sparked by the Brunswick Creek blaze on July 4, reached 67,722 hectares.
Due to extreme drought conditions, fire activity is expected to continue within the wildfire perimeters until winter. The fires previously caused evacuations in the Fraser Valley and Thompson Nicola Regional Districts and led to the closure of Highway 1, which has since reopened.
In a separate development, the Okanagan Indian Band has partially rescinded its evacuation order for the Bradley Creek wildfire. Residents on several roads, including Goat Trail Road, Sqareilks Road, and Abel Cove Road, are permitted to return home, though officials warn of remaining hazards such as smoke, ash, and unstable structures.
