Overview

As of August 10, 2026, wildfire activity remains a critical concern in British Columbia. The Quilpituk Creek wildfire, located south of La Casa along Westside Road, continues to be out of control and has grown to approximately 1,239 hectares. The BC Wildfire Service has attempted controlled burns to create fuel breaks, though unfavorable weather and smoke have previously hindered these operations. Crews are monitoring for vigorous surface fire and deep burning in woody debris that could trigger spot fires from gusty winds. Structural protection teams are patrolling homes 24/7, while BC Hydro assesses danger trees and works to re-energize powerlines.

Evacuation orders and alerts remain in effect for the Quilpituk Creek area. Central Okanagan Emergency Operations is currently managing re-entry planning, which involves hazard assessments and water system evaluations. Residents using the Killiney Beach and Westshore Estates water systems have been advised that a boil water notice will be required upon their return.

Meanwhile, the 2,634-hectare Bradley Creek Complex near Vernon is being held, with expectations that it will remain within its current perimeter. In the Township of Spallumcheen, previous evacuation orders have transitioned to alerts. The Okanagan Indian Band continues recovery efforts and maintains a do-not-consume order for its water systems due to potential infrastructure damage.

In other areas, the wildfire near Saskum Lake continues to burn in steep, unstable, and rocky terrain, having reached 364 hectares by August 8.
