Brydon Carse removed from England squad amid nightclub investigation

England fast bowler Brydon Carse has been removed from the national squad for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s following a nightclub incident in Derby. Video footage circulating on social media showed Carse in handcuffs outside a venue, leading to an investigation by the Cricket Regulator after a referral from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Derbyshire Police reported that a man in his 30s was briefly detained on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly but was released without charge after agreeing to leave the area. Carse, 31, was celebrating a County Championship win with Durham at the time. While teammates Ben Stokes and Matthew Potts were visible in the footage, police indicated no wrongdoing by other individuals.

England captain Joe Root expressed significant frustration, stating he was “really hacked off” by the distraction from the team’s recent on-field success. The incident marks the latest in a series of off-field disciplinary issues for the England team, including previous alcohol-related controversies involving players like Harry Brook and Ben Duckett. Sonny Baker has been named as Carse’s replacement for the upcoming match.
