BSP falls behind in presidential prep, says Kaloyan Pargov

Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader Kaloyan Pargov told Nova News that the party is lagging in its preparation for the upcoming presidential election and that the most suitable candidate remains the incumbent president. He linked internal disagreements to the recent Kyiv declaration, saying the debate exposed a lack of political experience and coordination among government officials.

Pargov warned that “small mismatches can turn into big scandals and public discussions, eroding trust,” and criticized the current communication strategy as “inexperienced and problematic.” He also highlighted ongoing foreign‑policy debates, such as the controversy over U.S. aircraft and the modernization of Sofia Airport, describing the government’s attempt to balance different interests as “complex”. Finally, he emphasized that BSP’s current task is to transform the party and the broader left.

These remarks come as Bulgaria’s political landscape grapples with questions of unity within the ruling majority and the broader implications of the Kyiv declaration for foreign‑policy alignment.
