BSW Saxony-Anhalt loses 21 members amid leadership protests
The Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) in Saxony-Anhalt has experienced a wave of defections, with 21 members leaving the party. The departures include several individuals who held or currently hold leadership positions.
In a joint resignation letter, the departing members accused the party leadership of employing an authoritarian leadership style characterized by a "culture of mistrust and surveillance," lack of transparency, and political favoritism. They further alleged that the BSW is increasingly adopting the language and political themes of the AfD during the current state election campaign.
Notable defectors include former state vice-chair Sylvia Winkelmann-Witkowsky, as well as district chairs Katja Wendland and Harald Koch. BSW state leader John Lucas Dittrich commented that while formal resignation letters had not yet been received at the time of reporting, the situation provided necessary "clarity."
