BTS concert delay sparks retail boom in Busan

The BTS World Tour ‘Arirang’ show at Busan Asiad Stadium was delayed by about 1 hour and 15 minutes because of crowd‑control issues, including bottlenecks at fan‑gift distribution and ticket‑checking. Organiser HYBE issued an apology and said it would tighten entrance and gift‑distribution procedures for the second night.

Around 100,000 fans are expected for the two‑day event, prompting a surge in local retail activity. Department stores and convenience‑store chains set up pop‑up booths, special promotions and discount events. Reported sales jumps include a 135 % rise at Lotte’s main store, a 48 % increase at Shinsegae, GS25 stores near the venue seeing up to five‑fold higher sales, and CU stores reporting a 3.7‑fold boost. Foreign tourist visits to Busan have also risen, with a 25.9 % year‑on‑year increase in April.

HYBE pledged to ensure smoother operations for the remainder of the tour, while retailers continue to capitalize on the influx of international fans.
