BTS Arirang tour fuels tourism surge, sets attendance record
Overview
Since its May 2026 launch, BTS’s Arirang world tour has continued to generate cultural, economic and diplomatic ripples across continents. The 88‑date, 23‑country schedule remains on track for a total gross of $748‑$800 million, with stadiums such as Malaysia’s National Stadium and Madrid’s Metropolitano drawing roughly 70,000 fans each.
Busan’s tourism boom has accelerated. Between January and May 2026 the city welcomed 1,936,572 foreign visitors—a 40 % year‑on‑year rise that already exceeds its resident population and reaches 48.4 % of the four‑million annual target. Taiwanese travelers led the count, followed by visitors from China, Japan and the United States. Tourist spending climbed 56 % to 4,544 billion won, making Busan the nation’s second‑largest domestic tourism market after Seoul. City officials are expanding cruise programs, the “Visit Busan Pass” and integrated air‑rail‑sea packages to sustain momentum.
In London, the July 6‑7 shows at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium attracted roughly 130,000 fans, establishing the venue’s highest per‑show attendance since its 2019 opening. Live Nation and Big Hit Music confirmed the record, and UK media highlighted the concerts as a revival of BTS’s 2019 Wembley memories.
The tour’s promotional push is reflected in the UK music market: BTS’s fifth studio album Arirang has remained in the Official Album Chart’s top‑40 for 17 consecutive weeks, sitting at No. 35 and ranking No. 20 in the first‑half‑year list—the only K‑pop entry among the 20 best‑selling albums. Analysts link the sustained chart performance to the ongoing tour.
The tour will next visit Munich’s Allianz Arena, Paris, and includes a halftime appearance at the upcoming World Cup final, further cementing BTS’s global influence.
