Turkey municipalities face road infrastructure disputes and maintenance protests
Various municipalities in Turkey are facing scrutiny over road infrastructure and maintenance. In Manisa, the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality has launched extensive asphalt works in Turgutlu, specifically in the Ergenekon and Sinirli neighborhoods, to improve access for farmers and residents. Turgutlu Mayor Çetin Akın stated that these projects aim to fulfill promises made to the public by upgrading major arteries and rural connection roads.
In contrast, residents in Adana's Seyhan district have staged protests against poorly maintained, potholed roads in the Yeşilyurt neighborhood. Citizens expressed frustration over dust and vehicle damage, with some residents laying carpets on the streets and watering them to draw attention to the issue. They have called for immediate intervention from Seyhan Municipality.
In Sivas, residents of the Özarslan apartment in the Çayyurt neighborhood are disputing land boundaries. After attempting to build a garden wall, they discovered through official maps that a portion of their property had been incorporated into a municipal road and sidewalk. The residents have marked their boundaries with paint and signs, requesting that the municipality remove the sidewalk to restore their land.
