Bucharest airports to implement advanced anti-drone systems

The Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB) is initiating the procurement of integrated counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) to protect Henri Coandă and Aurel Vlaicu international airports. The company has launched a market consultation to estimate costs for the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of these systems, which will include staff training and a 48-month service period covering both warranty and post-warranty phases.

The required technology must be capable of detecting, identifying, tracking, and neutralizing unauthorized drones, including commercial, DIY, and FPV models. Technical specifications demand 360-degree coverage, a minimum detection range of 5 kilometers, and the ability to operate continuously 24/7 in various weather conditions and lighting. The systems must support both kinetic and non-kinetic neutralization methods within legal frameworks.

This security upgrade follows an increase in drone-related incidents in the region. Separately, the Bucharest International Air Show (BIAS) 2026 is scheduled for August 28–29 at Băneasa Airport, featuring military aircraft from several European nations and Romanian F-16s.
