Overview
Romania is advancing regulatory and security measures regarding unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The Bucharest Airports National Company (CNAB) has begun a procurement process for integrated counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) to protect Henri Coandă and Aurel Vlaicu international airports. These systems are intended to detect, identify, track, and neutralize unauthorized drones, including commercial and DIY models, through both kinetic and non-kinetic methods.
Concurrently, the Romanian Civil Aeronautical Authority (AACR) is working to establish criteria for dedicated drone testing zones. This initiative seeks to create a regulated framework for testing new UAS technologies, utilizing delimited airspace with specific risk management, separation protocols, and cybersecurity measures to ensure the safety of populated areas and piloted aircraft.
