Bucharest begins major road upgrades in Henri Coandă and Ghencea

The Bucharest City Hall has launched a modernization program in the Henri Coandă district after more than ten years of delay. The 45 million‑lei investment will be carried out over 12 months and includes the construction of 32 streets and four roundabouts, amounting to nearly 11 km of new road, along with road markings, upgraded public lighting, green spaces and urban furniture.

The municipality also released an update on the Prelungirea Ghencea extension. The first segment, between the tram line 41 terminal and Brașov Street, is now complete, featuring widened lanes, a relocated tram line and bicycle paths, and is expected to be handed over at the end of summer. Work continues on five further segments involving additional lane widening, tram track installation, water‑network adjustments, lighting upgrades and the construction of retention basins. More than 100 workers and dozens of machines are on site, with the entire project slated for completion by the end of 2026.
