Bucharest Mayor Ciprian Ciucu to Evaluate Every Tree Along Herăstrău Lake Shore

Bucharest mayor Ciprian Ciucu announced that each tree on the bank of Herăstrău Lake will be assessed individually. He emphasized that no deforestation permits have been signed and that markings placed by the construction company represent only a proposal. Trees within the protected zone will be saved when possible; those with less than 50 cm of crown above the waterline, or with more than 70 % crown loss and disease, may be removed and replaced with new plantings of the same species. The evaluation will be carried out jointly by the City Hall, the Environmental Directorate and the Association of Landscape Architects, using manual excavation to minimise impact. Ciucu also said work had been delayed by heavy rain and that coordination with Apele Române is underway to improve water drainage and resume work at additional sites.
