Bucharest mayor vows to protect trees in Herăstrău Park renovation
At a press conference, Bucharest General Mayor Ciprian Ciucu announced that the ongoing consolidation of the Herăstrău Lake banks will not involve widening the surrounding pathways, to avoid cutting mature trees. Each tree in the work zone will be assessed individually, and those affected will be monitored and cared for over the next two to three years.
The city will create a public GIS registry of the park’s tree inventory. The renovation, part of a public‑private partnership with the Community Foundation Bucharest, the Romanian Landscape Association and the National Heritage Institute, is expected to last about five years and includes similar upgrades for other city parks such as Cismigiu, Carol and Tineretului.
