Romania fuel prices hit record highs as gasoline nears 10 lei per liter

Fuel prices in Romania have reached new historic highs, with standard 95 gasoline approaching the 10 lei per liter threshold. National averages for gasoline have risen to approximately 9.88 lei per liter, with some stations reporting prices as high as 9.97 lei per liter. This represents a significant increase compared to the 2022 energy crisis, where gasoline averaged around 8.65 lei per liter.

Diesel prices also remain elevated, with the national average for standard diesel at 10.35 lei per liter and premium diesel nearing 11.15 lei per liter. Major distributors, including OMV Petrom, Rompetrol, and MOL, have implemented price increases following rising international oil costs. Brent crude oil has climbed to between 108 and 109 dollars per barrel, driven by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

These rising costs are causing significant frustration among Romanian drivers, who report that frequent price fluctuations and the rapid reversal of any announced decreases are placing a heavy burden on household budgets.
