Bucharest Sector 1 Waste Contract Dispute Resolved by Court

The Tribunal of Bucharest annulled the Local Council of Sector 1’s decision that had announced the termination of its waste‑management contract with Romprest Service SA on 30 June 2026. The court rejected Romprest’s objections and confirmed that the council’s notification was legally invalid, meaning the contract remains in effect pending further proceedings. The ruling follows a series of legal challenges dating back to 2008 over the length and terms of the contract, including prior attempts by the council to reduce its duration and the appointment of a new operator, Blue Planet, for certain services.

The court’s decision reinstates the existing contractual arrangement between Sector 1 and Romprest, ensuring continuity of street cleaning and waste collection services while the municipality considers future tender processes.
