Bucharest sectors revamp waste collection: new operator in Sector 1 and cleanup drive in Sector 5

From 1 July 2026 the public waste‑collection operator in Bucharest’s Sector 1 will be changed to Blue Planet. Household waste will continue to be collected on the existing schedule and remains free for residents. Commercial firms, institutions and other economic agents must contract with Blue Planet; contracts can be arranged online via the Blue Planet portal or in person at the Citizen Office on Mureș Street. A dedicated phone line (021 9319) and the email salubritate@primarias1.ro have been set up for assistance and complaints during the transition period.

In Sector 5, municipal sanitation teams carried out an extensive cleaning operation in the Iacob Andrei neighbourhood after receiving citizen reports. The work included street cleaning, washing public spaces, maintaining green areas and pruning trees. Mayor Vlad Popescu Piedone said, “I remain the same man dedicated to the community… priority is the well‑being of the residents and the continuous development of our sector. I will keep listening to people’s problems and turning promises into concrete actions.”
