Budapest and Maglód schools investigate mass childhood illness
Multiple children in Budapest and Maglód have fallen ill with vomiting and diarrhea, leading to several hospitalizations at the Heim Pál National Institute of Pediatrics. Parents of the affected students suspect food poisoning, noting that the children all consumed the same meal—chickpea soup and spaghetti—provided by a specific catering company.
The Budapest Government Office has launched an investigation covering seven institutions across the VI., IX., and XXI. districts, as well as Maglód. While parents point to the shared meal as the cause, local officials in Csepel have suggested the outbreak could be a viral illness, citing the large number of children in the affected kindergartens and schools.
The catering company has denied any involvement, stating that inspections at their kitchen by authorities found no evidence of food-related illness. Laboratory tests are currently underway to determine if a single pathogen is responsible for the symptoms.
