Budapest BUX index slides as OTP shares tumble

On July 22, 2026 the Budapest Stock Exchange’s BUX fell to 143,245.06 points, a 0.45% drop from the previous close, with trading volume of about 5.9 billion forints. Leading declines were seen in OTP, which fell 0.87% to 45,700 forints, Mol down 0.05% to 4,326 forints, and Magyar Telekom slipping 0.15% to 2,660 forints.

The slide follows the Hungarian National Bank’s second interest‑rate cut since the Iran war, bringing inflation to 1.7%, below its 3 ± 1 % target. The reference rate remains about two percentage points higher than in Poland, leaving room for further easing. Analysts note that Poland’s central bank may consider similar cuts, which could boost Polish equities as well.
