Tourism remained robust, highlighted by a surge of Romanian visitors to Hajdúszoboszló’s spa complex and the “Blue Wave” beach awards on Lake Balaton, where Kisfaludy Strand was named the best beach of 2026. Fuel prices, after the protective cap lifted on 27 June, stayed close to the former ceiling. Eurostat showed Hungary’s fuel‑price rise in June was only 2.3 % YoY—the slowest among EU members—while wholesale prices climbed as Brent breached $100 a barrel and the forint weakened. Officials warned that a wider price gap could spark “fuel tourism” and pledged to intervene if retail prices rise sharply, noting that some stations have already brushed the protected limit. The Budapest Stock Exchange rallied in late July, with the BUX index closing the week at 143,471 points, up 1.77 % from the prior week. Gains were led by oil major MOL, whose share price surged after a new Adriatic gas discovery, and OTP Bank, which rose on the announced acquisition of Luminor. Analysts lifted price targets for both firms. The forint, while still near the 360 EUR/HUF level that benefited from post‑election optimism, showed signs of weakening as the Federal Reserve is expected to keep U.S.
