Budapest Classic Film Marathon to feature 100 restored screenings

The Budapest Classic Film Marathon (BKFM) is scheduled to take place from September 15–20, featuring 100 screenings of restored cinematic classics. Organized by the National Film Institute, the festival will be held at various venues, including the Uránia National Film Theatre, Toldi Cinema, Art+ Cinema, the French Institute, the NFI Film Archive, and the new outdoor location at the Budapest Kertmozi.

The festival opening will feature the 4K restored world premiere of the Queen Budapest concert film, marking the 40th anniversary of the band's legendary performance in Hungary. The program also includes a selection of Hungarian films that were banned for decades, commemorating the anniversary of the 1956 Revolution, and works honoring the 100th anniversary of director Andrzej Wajda.

Special guests attending the marathon include French director and actor Mathieu Kassovitz, Iranian filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf, and cinematographer Pawel Edelman, who will participate in masterclasses and discussions. The event also features live film concerts and a pop-up exhibition at the Uránia National Film Theatre.
