Romania and Hungary report major police enforcement and seizures
In Romania, a large-scale police operation named ‘Blocada’ resulted in significant enforcement actions. On a single Saturday, authorities revoked the driving licenses of 549 motorists, including 133 for speeding and 71 for driving under the influence of alcohol. Law enforcement identified 130 traffic crimes and issued 9,448 fines totaling over 4.2 million lei. The operation involved more than 3,000 police and gendarmerie officers focused on public order, road safety, and preventing drug trafficking.
In Hungary, the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) seized 340 boxes of duty-free cigarettes and a firearm from an abandoned vehicle in Budapest. The seizure was made possible by a service dog named Bingo, which alerted officers to the contraband during a patrol. The investigation into excise tax offenses and budget fraud is ongoing, while the firearm was handed over to the Budapest Police.
