Budapest will stage the UEFA Champions League final on 30 May, turning the capital into a football hub with a four‑day festival that includes fan zones, gaming areas, live concerts by The Killers and appearances by former stars such as Luís Figo and Cafú. Hungarian broadcaster RTL will serve as host broadcaster, providing extensive live coverage and behind‑the‑scenes interviews, aiming to reach an estimated 150 million viewers worldwide.

At the same time, UEFA’s Executive Committee, meeting in Istanbul on 20 May, approved a overhaul of the national‑team qualifying system that will take effect after Euro 2028. The new structure replaces the traditional group format with league‑style competitions modelled on the Champions League and Nations League, affecting Euro, World Cup and Nations League qualifiers. The reforms will see the Nations League reduced to three divisions of 18 teams each, with promotion‑relegation and linked qualification pathways that also involve the Hungarian national side.
