Budapest public safety decline highlighted by Mi Hazánk

Mi Hazánk’s Budapest chairman Balog Csaba told the press that the capital’s public safety has been worsening for about two decades. He noted a roughly 30% reduction in police personnel over the years and insufficient recruitment of new officers.

Balog criticised past governments for not doing enough to maintain order and questioned why district leaders, whom he labelled “balliberal” mayors, have only now raised the issue. He said municipalities have been forced to sign cooperation agreements with police stations, taking on tasks that the state does not adequately cover. The party urged Fidesz‑KDNP and the government to act swiftly to restore safety in Budapest and across Hungary.
