Budapest Stock Exchange BUX index falls amid OTP Bank volatility

The Budapest Stock Exchange's BUX index closed down 1.4 percent at 149,155.36 points on Monday. The decline was primarily driven by OTP Bank, which saw its share price drop nearly 4 percent to 44,100 HUF. This downturn follows reports that the bank may be considering a withdrawal from the Russian market, a region that accounts for approximately 20 percent of OTP's revenue. OTP dominated market activity, accounting for 39.5 billion HUF of the total 45 billion HUF trading volume.

In contrast, Mol Group shares rose by 1.55 percent to 5,230 HUF, supported by increasing oil prices. Magyar Telekom saw a slight increase of 0.79 percent, while Richter shares declined by 0.64 percent.

Separately, weather forecasts for Hungary indicate continued warm and dry conditions through the week, with daytime temperatures expected to range between 20 and 27 degrees Celsius. However, agricultural concerns persist as drought conditions have led to a shortage of fodder, with industry leaders warning of potential losses up to 600 billion HUF in the agricultural sector.
