Budapest Stock Exchange BUX Index reaches historic high
The Budapest Stock Exchange (BÉT) BUX index closed at a record 143,072.29 points on Friday, up 2.35% from the previous week’s close. Weekly turnover rose sharply to 137.5 billion forints from 103.0 billion. The rally was driven chiefly by OTP Bank, whose shares broke a new price record, and by MOL’s announcement of a Polish bond issuance, which lifted MOL’s stock by more than 3%.
Other Hungarian indices also posted gains, while the broader market mood improved after a brief slump caused by unsettled Iranian election results. Internationally, major indices such as Germany’s DAX and the U.S. Dow Jones also hit historic highs during the same week.
