Budapest Stock Exchange BUX index rises amid global market peaks

The Budapest Stock Exchange (BÉT) index, BUX, rose 1.33 percent to close the week at 148,632.55 points, driven by favorable international sentiment. The index hit historical peaks earlier in the week before experiencing mid-week volatility.

Corporate performance varied among major issuers. Richter saw the largest gain, with shares rising 4.41 percent to 12,320 HUF. Mol Group increased by 2.65 percent to 4,650 HUF following reports that exceeded expectations, despite fluctuations in global oil prices. OTP Bank saw a marginal increase of 0.15 percent to 46,890 HUF, though its second-quarter performance was weaker than forecasted. Magyar Telekom declined by 1.82 percent to 2,696 HUF.

This upward trend in the BUX aligns with performance seen in the German DAX and the US S&P 500. Analysts note that the rise in indices like the DAX may reflect the success of global corporations headquartered in those regions rather than the domestic economic health of the home countries alone, as many major firms derive the majority of their revenue from international markets.
