Budapest Stock Exchange climbs nearly 5% in July
The Budapest Stock Exchange (BÉT) saw its benchmark BUX index close July at 146,688.57 points, a rise of almost 5% from June. Total intraday turnover reached 491.6 billion forints, with an average daily volume of 21.37 billion.
OTP Bank dominated trading, handling 326.1 billion forints (about 66% of monthly volume). Mol followed with 83 billion and Richter Gedeon with 51.2 billion. Mol’s share price surged more than 20%, hitting a historic high, while small‑cap Civita posted the strongest gain at 30.2%.
Wood & Company was the leading brokerage, processing 338.3 billion forints of trades, ahead of Concorde and Erste. Market sentiment was shaped by Middle‑East geopolitical developments, shifting energy markets and recent U.S. trade‑policy announcements. European peers mostly rose, with Germany’s DAX up 1.4% and France’s CAC up 1.3%, while London slipped slightly.
