Budapest to evacuate area for WWII Soviet bomb disposal
A World War II-era Soviet FAB-100 demolition bomb has been discovered at a construction site located at 404 Üllői út in Budapest's 18th district. Due to the explosive's current condition, experts have determined it cannot be safely transported and must be defused on-site.
Bomb disposal operations are scheduled for Sunday, October 18. To ensure public safety, police will evacuate and cordoned off a 200-meter radius around the site starting at 8:30 AM. The restrictions will impact pedestrian traffic, vehicle movement, and public transportation.
The exclusion zone includes the area between the market at Balassa Bálint utca 2–10 and Haladás utca, as well as residential buildings and a beauty salon on Szent Lőrinc sétány 4–6. Additionally, several properties on Üllői út and major intersections, including the junction of Üllői út, Városház utca, and Thököly út, will be closed to traffic.
