Hungary hosts cultural heritage and open market events amid Budapest traffic changes

Hungary is hosting several large-scale cultural and community events this weekend, including the Cultural Heritage Days and the National Open Markets Day. The Cultural Heritage Days feature approximately 500 free programs, offering public access to rarely visited buildings such as the Sándor Palace, the Hungarian Statistical Office, and various historic churches, castles, and museums across the country.

Simultaneously, the National Open Markets Day will take place at 26 locations, including 15 in Budapest and 11 in regional areas. These markets will offer tastings, concerts, and family programs to highlight local flavors and community spaces.

In Budapest, the Car-Free Weekend will coincide with these events, leading to significant traffic and public transport changes. The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) has warned of road closures on the Liberty Bridge, Műegyetem rakpart, and Vámház körút. Several tram lines, including the 47, 48, and 49, will not operate, and commuters are advised to use alternative routes such as the metro and specific bus services.
