Budapest University investigates yearbook memorial for Hamas fighter
The Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) has launched an investigation after reports surfaced that its 2026 yearbook memorialized a man identified as a Hamas fighter.
Nour al-Din al-Jamasi, who reportedly studied Computer Science and Engineering at BME as a Palestinian scholarship student, was identified by terrorism expert Joe Truzman. Truzman noted that al-Jamasi appeared in a photo related to the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Balassi Preparatory Programme.
According to Palestinian media and reports from Truzman, al-Jamasi left Budapest following the October 7 attacks to join Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, where he was later killed during combat with the Israeli military. In response to the discovery of the memorial in the university's yearbook, BME has removed the affected publication while conducting its inquiry.
