Budapest's New Közvágóhíd Bridge Opens, Completing Southern Railway Hub

Minister of Transport and Development Vitézy Dávid became the first person to step onto the new Közvágóhíd station platform after the 2,500‑ton, 109‑metre steel bridge was installed over Soroksári út. The bridge is a key element of the Southern Railway Belt (Déli Körvasút) project, providing a strategic interchange between long‑distance, suburban, tram and bus services and creating a new southern gateway for the capital.

The structure was positioned with millimetre precision by V‑Híd Zrt using a 176‑wheel self‑propelled modular transport vehicle. A second, identical bridge is slated for installation next summer, which will result in a four‑track, two‑platform station. The full project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, with full operational capacity expected from 2028. While the minister acknowledged criticism of the procurement price, he emphasized the bridge as a valuable and functional investment.
