Hungary bridge projects and tourism initiatives

In late July 2026, Hungary inaugurated the 2,500‑ton, 109‑metre Közvágóhíd steel bridge in Budapest, completing the Southern Railway Belt’s southern hub and linking long‑distance, suburban, tram and bus services. The bridge’s precise installation was highlighted by Transport Minister Vitézy Dávid, with a second identical span planned for the following summer and full project completion targeted for the end of 2027.

A week later, the government announced a series of cultural and recreational programmes for August, including the inaugural Danube Bend Experience Days festival and the approval of a privately financed 138‑metre pedestrian bridge to Óbuda Island. The pedestrian bridge will feature elevators, bike lanes and lighting, complementing broader upgrades to road links, utilities and parking. Additional events such as museum exhibitions, a new mountain‑bike trail at Eplény, and tourism updates for Lake Balaton were also detailed, signalling a coordinated push to boost both infrastructure and tourism in the region.
