Budi Arie Setiadi’s election remarks spark political backlash in Indonesia
Political figures and organizations in Indonesia are reacting to recent viral statements by Budi Arie Setiadi regarding the possibility of accelerating elections before 2029.
In Kendal, the PC SATRIA branch expressed strong disapproval of Budi Arie’s remarks, stating they could trigger political instability and unnecessary speculation. M Sarif Hidayatullah, representing the Gerindra Party wing, emphasized that the presidential term is constitutionally set for five years and reaffirmed full support for President Prabowo Subianto’s administration to complete its mandate.
Simultaneously, the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has distanced itself from the comments. PSI Vice Chairman Andy Budiman clarified that Budi Arie holds no position, membership, or leadership role within the party. Budiman urged the public to stop associating Budi Arie’s statements with PSI, asserting that any actions or opinions expressed by him are his sole responsibility.
