Various regions are facing critical waste management and sanitation challenges. In New York, authorities are enforcing fines for small buildings failing to use official trash containers to combat rat populations. In Colombia, ATESA is transitioning Santa Marta from a large-container system back to direct doorstep collection.

Environmental concerns are rising elsewhere: a landfill in Buena Vista, Paraguay, is reportedly mixing solid waste with hospital refuse, while in Venezuela, residents of Mi Jardín III are protesting illegal urban pig farms that cause sewage collapses. In Spain, ecologists have warned of potential sewage leaks in the Punta Carnero coastal area, threatening endangered marine species.

Local administrative issues also persist, including labor protests by construction workers in Peru over unpaid wages and lack of safety equipment, and municipal warnings in Paraguay regarding legal penalties for illegal waste disposal. In Argentina, residents have reported sanitation issues caused by improper commercial waste disposal timing.
