Buena Vista Social Club musical expands to Mexico City and Miami

The Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical ‘Buena Vista Social Club’ is expanding its reach with major productions in Mexico City and Miami.

In Mexico City, the production is scheduled to debut at the Teatro de los Insurgentes on November 12. This marks the first international Spanish-language season outside of the United States following its Broadway success. Producer Julieta González noted that Mexico City was chosen over cities like London or Madrid due to the historical cultural ties between Mexico and Cuba.

In the United States, the musical has launched its national tour, arriving at the Adrian Arsht Center in Miami. The production depicts the true story of the iconic Cuban musicians who reunited in the 1990s to record the Grammy-winning album. The narrative jumps between pre-revolution Havana and the recording sessions of the 1990s, focusing on the legacy of artists such as Omara Portuondo, Compay Segundo, and Ibrahim Ferrer.
