Buenos Aires Autodromo modernization progresses toward MotoGP 2027
The comprehensive renovation of the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez in Buenos Aires is about 60% complete. The project, overseen by the state company Autopistas Urbanas (AUSA) and begun in January 2026, includes a new tunnel under curve 1 (approximately 4.5 m high and 11 m wide), demolition of the historic tribune, relocation of the existing kartódromo and the construction of a new one with international homologation. Designed by Tilke Engineers & Architects, the circuit will have two configurations: a 4.3‑km, 14‑turn layout for MotoGP and a 4.87‑km, 15‑turn layout that meets FIA Grade 1 standards for Formula 1. The upgraded venue will accommodate up to 150,000 spectators per day, and the main straight will allow vehicles to reach speeds of up to 340 km/h. Officials, including Governor Jorge Macri and Sports Secretary Fabián Turnes, say the works aim to host the MotoGP Grand Prix in 2027 and keep the prospect of a Formula 1 return alive. A legislative request has also been filed to obtain detailed information on the kartódromo relocation and related environmental and budgetary aspects.
