Buenos Aires excavations reveal historical artifacts at Casa Blaquier
Archaeological excavations at Casa Blaquier in Buenos Aires have uncovered significant historical artifacts and structures. Since work began in March following the property's recovery by the city government, researchers have identified five distinct archaeological structures, including a latrine, a sinkhole, disposal pits, and an unexcavated cistern.
More than 4,000 fragments have been recovered, consisting of majolica, porcelain, ceramics, glass, and other everyday items. Notable finds include two coins dated to 1743 and 1749, and a unique chess piece carved from bone. Additionally, archaeologists discovered kaolin pipes, marbles, beads, buttons, and bone remains from birds and fish, providing insight into the dietary habits and domestic practices of the site's former inhabitants.
