FINCA Environmental Film Festival Returns to Buenos Aires for 8th Edition

The Festival Internacional de Cine Ambiental (FINCA) will hold its eighth edition in Buenos Aires from 12 to 19 August 2025. Organized by the Instituto Multimedia de Derechos Humanos, the festival will present 35 films from 24 countries—17 shorts, 9 feature‑length titles and 9 documentaries—across five city venues: Cine York, the Alianza Francesa, Cine Arte Cacodelphia, Teatro Empire and the Centro Cultural 25 de Mayo.

The program is united under the slogan “Sembremos Futuro,” urging audiences to rethink the land as a common territory and to address environmental and human‑rights challenges. Nine thematic sections will guide the screenings, covering water, biodiversity, extractivisms, human rights, climate justice, Indigenous peoples, food sovereignty, land and shelter, and a special FINQUITA segment. Argentine productions highlighted include *La vida fracturada*, which examines hydraulic fracturing and Indigenous resistance in Patagonia, and *Tierra que habla*, which blends Kankuama, Mapuche and scientific perspectives on extractivism.

FINCA aims to use cinema and audiovisual storytelling to strengthen public awareness of sustainability, land rights and ecological justice, offering alternative narratives to what organizers describe as “catastrophic” mainstream stories.
