Buenos Aires implements new water monitoring and dam technologies

The Buenos Aires provincial government is implementing new technologies to manage water levels in its river systems. In the Salado River, the Water Authority has installed an FDX SenIQ-RD device at the Ladaga bridge. This autonomous data logger uses 60 GHz FMCW radar technology to monitor water levels without direct contact with the river. The device operates via an internal lithium battery and utilizes IoT connectivity (3G, LTE-CAT-M1, and NB-IoT) to transmit data to the FDX-Cloud platform for remote monitoring.

Additionally, officials are evaluating a proposal from the Chinese state-owned Beijing IWHR Corporation to construct an inflatable dam on the Luján River. Infrastructure Minister Gabriel Katopodis met with a delegation from the company to discuss using reinforced rubber membrane technology to regulate water levels during dry periods. The proposed structure would be approximately 42.5 meters long and 2.25 meters high, designed to deflate during floods to prevent obstruction. While technical collaboration has begun, no formal contract or financing has been confirmed.
