Buenos Aires International Marathon to host record 16,384 runners

The Buenos Aires International Marathon is set to take place this Sunday, featuring a record-breaking 16,384 participants. The event includes 5,769 international athletes representing 64 different countries, with a significant contingent of 2,769 runners from Brazil.

Organized by Asociación de Carreras y Maratones Ñandú, the 42-kilometer course holds a World Athletics Label and will traverse iconic city landmarks including Palermo, Recoleta, Puerto Madero, and La Boca. To assist runners, the 2026 edition will debut a ‘blue line’ painted on the asphalt to guide participants along the most efficient trajectory.

The race will utilize a wave start system to manage crowds and includes elite categories with high-level competitors from Kenya, Ethiopia, and Rwanda. The event is a major driver of sports tourism for the city, which is working toward its goal of becoming a World Capital of Sport in 2027.
