Red SUBE eliminates train-to-subway transfer discounts in Buenos Aires

The Red SUBE transport integration system in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) has modified its fare discount scheme. As of August, the 50% discount previously applied to the second leg of a journey when transferring from a train to the subway (subte) has been eliminated.

Under the new rules, passengers arriving in the City of Buenos Aires via train must pay the full fare for the subsequent subway trip. This change specifically impacts commuters from the Buenos Aires suburbs (conurbano) who rely on these transfers. The Buenos Aires city government stated the modification occurred because the national government ceased financing integrations between services of different jurisdictions.

However, certain benefits remain. Discounts continue for transfers made exclusively within the City of Buenos Aires jurisdiction, such as between different subway lines or between the subway and local bus lines. In these cases, the second trip receives a 50% discount, and the third trip can reach a 75% discount if completed within 120 minutes. Additionally, if a journey begins on the subway and transfers to a train or bus, the 50% integration discount still applies.

Users can still manage their SUBE cards through electronic methods like the official app, home banking, and digital wallets, or via physical recharge points and buses equipped with the 'Carga a Bordo' system.
