Buenos Aires public transport fare changes
Overview
The public transportation system in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) has implemented changes to the SUBE network fare integration scheme. As of August 2026, the 50% discount previously applied to subway fares for passengers transferring from trains has been eliminated. Under the new rules, passengers arriving in the City of Buenos Aires via train must pay the full fare for the subsequent subway trip. The Buenos Aires city government stated this modification occurred because the national government ceased financing integrations between services of different jurisdictions.
Despite this change, certain benefits remain. The 50% discount continues for transfers made exclusively within the City of Buenos Aires jurisdiction, such as between different subway lines or between the subway and local bus lines. In these instances, the second trip receives a 50% discount, and the third trip can reach a 75% discount if completed within 120 minutes. Additionally, if a journey begins on the subway and transfers to a train or bus, the 50% integration discount still applies.
Regarding card management, users can reload their SUBE cards through electronic methods (official app, home banking, and digital wallets), in-person at authorized points, or via the ‘Carga a Bordo’ system on buses. Electronic and bus reloads allow up to $40,000, while cash reloads at physical points are capped at $9,900.
