Buenos Aires opens new SAME emergency medical base in Palermo
The Buenos Aires emergency medical service, SAME, has inaugurated a new 24-hour base in the Palermo neighborhood. Located under the Illia Highway on Jerónimo Salguero, the facility is the eighth such station opened during Jorge Macri's administration.
The new base is equipped with two ambulances and includes facilities for medical staff, such as two rooms, bathrooms, a lounge, and a radio operator office. The primary objective of the expansion is to decentralize the service and reduce emergency response times in high-traffic areas characterized by dense populations and heavy tourist flow.
Currently, the SAME network manages approximately 250,000 calls per year. The system operates 8 hospital-based stations and 24 extra-hospital stations, supported by 131 ambulances, 11 motorcycles, and a helicopter. The service also includes specialized units for neonatology, intensive care, and psychiatric emergencies.
