Buenos Aires opens new SAME emergency medical base in Palermo

The City of Buenos Aires has inaugurated a new base for the Emergency Medical Care System (SAME) in the Palermo neighborhood. Located under the Illia Highway, the facility is part of a decentralization strategy intended to reduce emergency response times, which currently average under five minutes.

This marks the eighth base opened during the administration of Mayor Jorge Macri. The city's emergency network now consists of 32 bases, including eight located in hospitals and 24 extra-hospital bases. The system manages approximately 250,000 calls annually and utilizes 131 ambulances, 11 motorcycles, one helicopter, and a staff of 1,254 professionals.

In addition to standard emergency services, the network includes specialized units for neonatology and intensive care, as well as a psychiatric division for mental health emergencies in public spaces.
