Buenos Aires Province honey contest records record participation and crowns top producers
The Ministry of Agrarian Development of Buenos Aires Province, led by Minister Javier Rodríguez, presented awards at the 6th Provincial Honey Competition during ExpoMiel 2026 in Azul. Rodríguez highlighted a record number of participants and the steady improvement in honey quality, noting that the province accounts for roughly half of Argentina's beekeeping production.
The contest evaluated 111 honey samples from the province's seven apicultural regions across five categories: liquid bulk, crystal bulk, liquid fractionated, crystal fractionated and a young‑entrepreneur class. Winners included Juan Barzantti (liquid bulk), Elizabeth De Michelis (crystal bulk), Nicolás Vergoni (crystal fractionated), Victoria Burs (liquid fractionated) and Bautista Olivera (young entrepreneurs), among others. The 15 top producers were granted passes to the 2026 Latin American Apiculture Congress (FILAPI) in Mar del Plata.
The event formed part of the Semana de la Miel, featuring tastings, technical talks and fairs in multiple towns, aimed at strengthening the sector and promoting Argentine honey in international markets.
